Help WA ban toxic sports water bottles

We only have a few short weeks to encourage our legislators to protect families from BPA in sports water bottles. Legislators have heard enough from special interest groups, it's time they hear from you.

Help WA ban toxic sports water bottles

Eliminating bisphenol A (BPA) in baby bottles and sippy cups is a no-brainer and eliminating it from sports water bottles should be too. Sports water bottles are a significant source of BPA exposure for vulnerable groups including fetuses, children, and pregnant women. BPA is a hormone-disrupting chemical that has been linked to a host of health effects, including prostate and breast cancer, heart disease, hyperactivity, and obesity. A 2009 Harvard University study found that spending a week drinking from polycarbonate bottles raised BPA levels by an average of 69%! 1

Unfortunately, industry lobby groups have been successful in weakening The Safe Baby Bottle Act. Washington's children and families will not be protected from exposure to BPA from sports water bottles in the current Senate version of the bill.

We only have a few short weeks to encourage our legislators to protect families from BPA in sports water bottles. Legislators have heard enough from special interest groups, it's time they hear from you.

Legislators got the message when we sent 1,410 messages to them in baby bottles. Now they need to hear from you about water bottles. Ask your legislators to pass the strongest version of the Safe Baby Bottle Act-including sports water bottles.

With our messages, we can remind legislators that commonsense and science should inform children's health policy-not industry lobbyists and special interests. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration's recently stated concerns about BPA, along with hundreds of peer reviewed scientific studies finding problems with BPA, are reason enough to question BPA's safety. Washington's families deserve to know that the water bottles on store shelves are free of toxic chemicals, including BPA.

Your legislator needs to hear from you today. Follow this link to send a message in a sports water bottle: http://org2.democracyinaction.org/o/5121/t/9077/campaign.jsp?campaign_KEY=2415
