Pick a Peck of Organic Fun

Growing Up Green - July 2010

Packing up the kids for a day at the farm is a recipe for summer fun and long lasting memories. Imagine the sweet, juicy taste of a just-plucked blueberry and a trunk full of berries to bring home! Picking your own means you enjoy fresh food at the peak of flavor and nutritional quality, and you and your family can enjoy the full farm experience.

If you can't make it to the farm yourself, becoming a regular at the farmers market is a great way to get the best food for your family while getting to know the farmer whose hard work made it possible.  When you shop at the farmers market, you can learn about fruit and veggies that are new to you and start a dialogue about how the food is grown.  Ask questions about how the farmer promotes soil health, crop choice and rotation, how the farmer manages pests, the use of pesticides, herbicides and anything else under the sun you always wanted to ask a farmer.

Organic, U-pick farms

It is best to call ahead to verify crop availability, hours, if pets are welcome, etc.
