Haven Illustrated

Jennifer Carlson, owner of Haven Illustrated, LLC, uses every inch of her own yard to illustrate the sustainable practices promoted in her landscape design and install business. The eye-catching demonstration beds in Carlson's front yard educate passersby that drought tolerant, low maintenance plants are also beautiful and interesting, a model of what an urban garden could be. Carlson's tiny front lawn is actually an experimental plot: here she runs 'tests' on different grass seed mixes and organic soil amendments. Only the 'successes' are used.
