The Evergreen State College

The 1044-acre campus of The Evergreen State College is zoned into four natural reserves which are only used for academic research, and a campus core. Development and landscaping is only authorized in the campus core. The Landscape Maintenance staff of the college maintains 300 "pesticide free" acres in the campus core. This practice was adopted more than 25 years ago. Through the use of native plant species, maintenance practices, integrated pest management, and a willingness to accept a marginal degree of pest damage, the campus has become a valuable laboratory for on-campus environmental studies.
