It's a bird, it's a plane...it's...the Toxic-Free Kids Act!

It’s finally here! The Toxic-Free Kids Act swooped in on the first day of legislative session and already we have 22 co-sponsors in the House. Some of our legislators have sided with us, agreeing that toxic chemicals have no business in our children’s products and we need companies to switch safer alternatives.

It makes sense to us, but you can bet the chemical industry and other big companies don’t want to change their ways. We can’t let them win! Our children’s health depends on it!

We shouldn’t have to worry about our children being exposed to toxic chemicals in products.

Washington State has always led the way in protecting children from harmful chemicals, but once we ban one dangerous substance, manufacturers can just put another one that’s just as bad.

We need to get Washington off this toxic treadmill and manufactures have not listened. That’s why we need your leadership in helping us protect children from toxic chemicals. Chemicals like Chlorinated Tris, that cause cancer and affect the brain, have no business in being children’s products.

The Toxic-Free Kids Act (HB2266/SB6120) will ban some of the worst chemicals and require companies to test alternatives to make sure they really are safer for our children.

In California, Chlorinated Tris was added to their list of probable carcinogens.  Now, new research suggests that beyond its potential cancer-causing properties, the chemical may be harmful to the nervous system as well.

Manufacturers have already found alternatives and we know we can protect people from fires without the use of cancer-causing chemicals.
