Take Action! Support and Strengthen the Federal Safe Chemicals Act of 2010

Good news! Because of  your support for laws in our state to protect families from toxic chemicals like toxic flame retardants, lead, and, most recently, bisphenol A (BPA) the other Washington is finally ready to act. Legislation to overhaul the nation's failed and out dated chemical law has been introduced in Congress by Senator Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ) and Congressmen Bobby Rush (D-IL) and Henry Waxman (D-CA).

Click here to ask your Members of Congress to co-sponsor and strengthen the Safe Chemicals Act of 2010.

The Safe Chemicals Act goes a long way towards bringing our failing chemical management system into the 21st century. It puts our health first, provides better information to businesses, and helps the average consumer avoid toxic chemicals in every day products.

But to adequately protect consumers from harmful chemicals several shortcomings in the current bill must be addressed. Right now the bill would allow hundreds of new chemicals to enter the market and be used in consumer products for many years without first requiring them to be proven safe. It also makes it too hard to get known dangerous chemicals off the market.

With your help we're confident it can be fixed. We need to show our representatives that there is wide spread support for overhauling the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA). Please send them an email today and let your friends and family know about this once-in-a-generation opportunity.
