Breaking News: Victory on BPA!

Breaking News: Victory on BPA!

Parents and kids should raise a BPA-free sippy cup today to the Washington State House of Representatives for passing the Safe Baby Bottle Act on a vote of 96-1!  Passage of the bill means parents can celebrate store shelves stocked with dishware and sports bottles free of toxic bisphenol A. The bill now moves to the Senate for concurrence and then to the Governor’s desk for signature.

Children’s health champion Rep. Mary Lou Dickerson (D-Seattle) deserves a toast for tirelessly shepherding the bill for two years through the legislature. Also critical in the bill’s passage and definitely "toast-worthy" are Sen. Karen Keiser (D-Kent), Rep. Zach Hudgins (D-Seattle), Rep. Tom Campbell (R-Roy), and Rep. Matt Shea (R-Greenacres).

Thanks also goes to members of the Toxic-Free Legacy Coalition for all of their hard work over the last two years, especially to WashPIRG, Washington State Nurses Association, Washington Physicians for Social Responsibility, People For Puget Sound, and Planned Parenthood! Thanks, too, to the Environmental Priorities Coalition for their support.

Finally, this victory couldn’t have happened without the thousands of emails, phone calls, messages, pictures, and much more that parents and other concerned consumers helped deliver to legislators. Today’s margin of victory shows that when people take action, legislators will listen!

Cheers!
