We’re coming up on the New Year, and that means it’s only a few weeks until the 2011 legislative session begins! Every year, the Environmental Priorities Coalition (of which Washington Toxics Coalition is a member) selects four issues to work collectively on in the legislature. This year the four agenda items are:
- Budget Solutions for our Environment
- A Coal-Free Future for Washington
- Reducing Phosphorus Pollution in our Waterways
- The 2011 Clean Water Act
Yes, it’s an ambitious list but we’re confident these are commonsense solutions to protecting health and the environment.
Want to help pass these priorities and learn about other issues the environmental community will be pushing in 2011? The Environmental Priorities Coalition is having a Legislative Workshop on January 8, 2011. It’s a great way to learn more about the legislative process, the environmental priorities, and what you can do to help them pass. You also get to rub shoulders with other folks who are passionate about the environment!
Attending the legislative workshop can also help prepare you for this year’s Environmental Lobby Day, which is on February 15, 2011. A full-day trip to Olympia, you’ll get training on how to lobby and meet with your state legislators. It’s a great way to show them their constituents care about environmental issues. Read People for Puget Sound’s (www.pugetsound.org) list of reasons to get involved, and plan ahead by RSVP-ing today!
