Toxic Toys Legislation Passes Out of Senate Committee

We’re one step closer to passing legislation to keep Washington kids safe from toxic chemicals.  Today, the Senate Environment, Water, and Energy committee voted to pass the Children's Safe Products Bill out of committee!  Thanks to sponsor Sen. Sharon Nelson, chair of the Committee Phil Rockefeller, and all others voting for the bill, the bill can now go to the Senate floor for approval.  We applaud the committee for taking action to pass these commonsense steps to protect our children from toxic chemicals.  There is still a long process, including passage through the House committee and full floor votes, before the bill becomes law, but the first legislative hurdle has been cleared!

Statement of Washington Toxics Coalition

Olympia, WA- Washington Toxics Coalition Campaign Director, Ivy Sager-Rosenthal, issued the following statement on today's passage of SB 5231, the Children's Safe Products Bill, out of the Senate Environment, Water, and Energy Committee:

Toxic chemicals linked to cancer and other serious health impacts shouldn't be in toys and other products used by kids. Luckily, it's a problem we can do something about.

Passage of this bill today takes an important step towards protecting children's health and helping toy makers and other manufacturers reduce their use of toxic chemicals in kids products. We thank the sponsor of the bill, Sen. Sharon Nelson, Chair of the Committee Sen. Phil Rockefeller and all of the committee members for moving this bill forward.
